I am an Assistant Professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology where I lead the Language Technology Group.

I received my PhD from Saarland University where I was a member of the Multilinguality and Language Technology Lab at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) part of the Saarland Informatics Campus.

My research interests are in computational linguistics and natural language processing. I am a member of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL), the ACL SIGEDU, and a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy.

I serve as a program committee member and area chair of multiple workshops and conferences.

I have been the lead organizer of the workshop on NLP for Similar Languages, Varieties and Dialects (VarDial) from 2014 to 2021. I am a Conference on Machine Translation (WMT) co-organizer running the Similar Language Translation task. I have been involved in organizing tasks at SemEval as the lead organizer of OffensEval and as a co-organizer of SemEval-2021 Task 1 - Lexical Complexity Prediction (LCP).

I am editing Similar Languages, Varieties, and Dialects: A Computational Perspective with Preslav Nakov to appear at the Cambridge University Press series Studies in Natural Language Processing. I am writing Automatic Language Identification in Texts with Tommi Jauhiainen, Tim Baldwin, and Krister Linden to appear in the Morgan & Claypool Series Synthesis Lectures on Human Language Technologies.
